April Fish Wellington, New Zealand

Stories are variations of truths. Stories are made up.
Stories are honest lies.

Stories become songs, and songs are poems cloaked in sound.
This is art.
Art is in the eye of the beholder.

∴ April Fish are artistic liars. The cheeky blighters.

Track Name: A Chorus Lie
One day, I will smash the glass, so there's no more looking back with malice. I'd love to attack the mutant I hate to see.
Whatever they say, there is no cure for bad DNA. Regardless of strength of faith, I'm still the mutant I hate to be.

Replaying historical events, consorting with the living-dead, remember what the doctor said: "It's all in your (head) exceptionally slippery grip on reality. When will you stop all of this polycephalous nonsense?"

We used to reside in her imagination, where she could express all her repressed emotion. She had to hide it; they didn't like it when she confided her truth.

Replaying historical events, consorting with the living-dead, ignoring what that lady said: "I'm just in your..."

Is it my eye, or my design?

Is this affliction a fact, or is it fiction exacting my distracted attention? I am too many again. I don't know which are my friends. I forgot to forget my insecurities.

Laughing at hysterical events to keep from being serious, remember what the joker said: "My best prediction is that with friction, you will react with undivided affection."

Is it my eye or my design?

Reliving historical events, I sense a great recurring trend for underactive over dead. Is this affliction a fact, or is it fiction relaxing my misguided intention? I'm undecided again. I can't confide in a friend when everywhere there's deception.

Is it my eye, or my design?
Track Name: X
I am obedient student awaiting my lesson. Legs crossed, arms folded, mouth shut, eyes open. I sit here staring at the door (the one that I just walked through), waiting patiently for you.

I am obedient student awaiting my lesson. Tick box, criss-cross my learning obsession. I have been studying at night, hoping that the bulb will alight up above my ignorant head.

I’ll be an angel, a proper angel, your pet. I’ll take it all in; absorb your every word.

Teach me to read a map. X marks the spot where I’m not. Help me to navigate to treasure. Grade me accordingly: Tick if I’m right, X if I’m not – so which symbol am I really after?

I am rebellious student obeying my teacher. I know that something is wrong with this picture. I sit here, staring at your page, trying mightily to engage with the myths you say are true.

I am rebellious student debating my teacher, receiving opinions through my own filter. I’ll take salt with what you say, enlightened (but not carried away), waiting for your time to end so mine can begin.

I'll be a hero, a proper hero, you'll see. I'll take it all on; try to right every wrong.

Teach me to read a map.

Our sixty minutes almost over, I am seeking something new. You may think I never found my treasure, but nothing could be further from the truth.

You taught me to read a map, X on the spot you told me I should want – the path you thought I should have taken. You failed me accordingly: X on the test, although I did my best. The symbol, once desired, now forsaking.

Listen, obedient students: this is your lesson!
Track Name: We Are Your Army
We are your army.
We are your allies in all situations.
We'll give you a home and a sense of direction.
We are your army.

Once a sinner, always a sinner.
Once a crazy, always a freak.
Once a coward, always a coward.
Once a pauper, always in need.
Once a puppy, always a bitch.
Once scientific, burned as a witch.
One of these days, we'll obliterate every enemy.

We are your army.
Track Name: Little Alison
Alison, you take a bow and marvel at how lucky you are. In the crowd you see yourself from years ago, cheering you on.

She doesn’t believe in the audience. Looking round, wanting no part in it, hating that she cant help joining in. Breathing toxic air, its in her head that the world is all mad, so she must be alert.

Alison, you take her hand and wonder how you could ever have been so small. You try to hide emotions from so long ago, mirrored in her face.

She doesn’t believe that she's capable; visions of triumph and happiness inundate her senses til she drowns. Suffocating in her seat with eyes bulging madly, she fails to exhale in suspense.

With no wings, you'll fall; with no gills, you'll drown; with no medicine, you'll die. But she doesn’t seem to try to set anchor down/use a safety net, and she threw away the key, deliberately.
Track Name: The Villain Not Quite Bad Enough to Hate
I am chasing you with piranha teeth.
I will catch you to kiss you until you bleed.
I am loving you intentionally; mind over heart, protect me from feeling.
Walk in front of me; I’m FEAR... fearful that you might grow some wings.

I’m not that vulnerable – no, wait – I COULD be, but I won’t be THAT.
I’ll harden up my heart so you won’t start to get to me.

I’ll take everything you have to give, spin around, and call it my own.
Face me when you say your PRAYERS. Pray you’ll never see my face.

I’m not that vulnerable – no, wait – I COULD be, but I won’t be THAT.
I’ll harden up my heart so you won’t start to get to me.
My hunger for your tears won’t wait; I starved away my own.
I’ll tell myself it’s fair because you couldn’t possibly care for me.

I’m the once-upon-a-time that never moved on from that line; the villain, not quite bad enough to hate.
I’m the child who loves to hurt herself because she hurts too much to love.

I won’t let sensibilities take over my design.
I’ll tell myself it’s all about YOU, ‘cause I’m fine, I’m fine.
I’m not that vulnerable (well, maybe I could be, but I WON’T allow it).
I’m over it. You will not close in on me.
I’ve hardened up my heart to numb the sensitivity.
I told myself it’s fair because nobody could possibly care for me.
Track Name: "Is It Still Now?"
Mother sighed, and brother tried to reason why his sister would deny such EVIDENCE of so-called crime.

Father felt the need to shake her, but inhibition said he'd break her.
All the while, she sat with a smile; asking questions, like "Is it still now?"

"I hope I never know," she said, "I hope I never know."
Track Name: Wondergrrrl
Wondergrrrl wanted to live in a free world. Wondergrrrl had to believe in something better. Wondergrrrl took off her bracelet and put it in a box. Wondergrrrl put on a bow tie, then took it off.

She wanted to fly, but the cape was so very heavy. She said, “Should I escape? or fight, though I don’t quite feel ready? My name is Pearl… My name is…”

Wondergrrrl wanted to catch up to her sisters. Wondergrrrl wanted to prove that she was as good as any brother who’d gone before. Wondergrrrl took off her mask and wished she could show the world. Wondergrrrl wished for more wisdom, power, prowess and panache.

She wanted to fly, but the cape was so very heavy. She said, “Should I escape? or fight, though I don’t quite feel ready? My name is Pearl… My name is…”

“I would be as wise as the ocean, I would be as strong as the moon – if I could live up to my name. My name is Pearl. Is Pearl my name? To save the world, I’m Wondergrrrl, but my name’s Pearl, or is my name Wondergrrrl?

I want to fly, but this cape is so very heavy. Should I make my escape now, or fight? Yeah, I think I might be ready. My name is Pearl… But my real name is Wondergrrrrl.”
Track Name: Fido
I’m going to make you write elegies, stare at the sun til you cannot see, stay up all night so you will not dream, stand in a storm to forget me.

I’m going to steal your ability to communicate effectively, make you fight with your family, and lose your friends individually.

You can try to fight; I’ll always win.
Can’t hide from me; I am within.
With every blow, I'll suck your strength until I’m all that you have left.

I'll make you mute, I’ll make you scream. I’ll make you say things you do not mean. I’ll make you deaf to all reasoning and neglect responsibility.

I’ll take away your hopes and fantasies, make you numb to everything that used to make you feel alive. I’ll be the only life inside your breathing corpse. I’ll be your only thought. I’ll be the only one you hear, the one you fear …

Call me crazy, but I think you might be starting to like me, and you realise you need me.
You’re not crazy, you’re just starting to believe me. You want me, and you think you’d like to keep me.

You can try to FIGHT; I’ll always win.
Can’t hide from me; I am within.
With every blow, I’ll suck your strength until I'm all that you have left.
Track Name: You'll Never Know
Give myself the task to lead for once.
I never trusted me before.
Too damn proud to take my own advice, I’m sure.
Pessimistic and so insecure,
I kinda hoped that I might fade away someday.
Always felt compelled to make a change.

Through the looking-glass, I see that life is just a palindrome.
History winds back around itself and won’t let go.
These things you’ll never know.

Strong emotions won’t die in the past
Forever coming back for more.
Iron-cast, they neither reason nor mature.

Through the looking-glass, I see that life is but a palindrome.
History winds back around itself and won’t let go.
These things you’ll never know.

I taught myself everything I never learned. I can’t exchange my company I don’t deserve.

Through the looking-glass I see my life is just a palindrome.
History winds back around itself and won’t let go.
These things you’ll never know.
Track Name: Zeitgeist
Take my hand; I will lead you far away.
Out of mind, losing feeling for the day.
Out of mind, different site; make your own custom zeitgeist.
I've got the map; you get to plan.

Come in, come in! Come an' make yourself a home.
Come as you are, put on a feast; christen your kingdom with alcohol.
Come in, come in! We love your company.
Teach us the way we should behave so that we’ll stay in your favour.

Use your voice to dictate the rate of time.
I can’t love, but I’ll keep you feeling fine.
Name your place, draw your face, pay with coins of sand and clay.
I’ve got the script; you fill the blank.

Come in, come in! Come an' make yourself a home.
Kick up a storm, put on a show, listen to no one but yourself.
Come in, come in! We'd hate to see you cry.
Teach us the words that we should say to keep you with us forever.

I can see you hesitate. What more could you be waiting for, that I have not given to you? Surely you don’t think that you’d be better off with ordinary life that you were born into! Don’t you reject me. Don’t you dare reject me. Don’t go...

Get out, get out! Find another home.
I’ll kick you out; there is no doubt that you are plain and unworthy.
I’M OUT. My offer is no longer.
Now, time will go by and you will die in humdrum human reality.
Track Name: A Darker Shade of Dream
I'm going down to the underground, where good dreams are tailor made.
They cost me my good eye, but worth the trade.
I'm resting now, atop a greying cloud. Bad thoughts make for a darker shade.
My head is too heavy - fall with the rain.

Won't you rest your heavy head? Won't you rest your heavy head? We'll see that you get some rest, and all your needs are met.
Won't you come on down to the underground, for dreams that you wont forget?
A mere lifetime of payment; forever in debt.

Creating nightmares to sell more dreams.
